I am writing to express my interest in doing a doctoral program at University of Wisconsin on ‘XXXXXX’. I have completed a master’s degree with a specialization in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University (USA) with substantial industry experience.
My extensive background span around manufacturing engineering, particularly CNC machining. I have hands-on experience working in multiple machining environments generating CNC programs and designing fixtures. I have worked with a wide variety of materials, including composites. The main responsibility in all these roles as an engineer was to minimize cycle times in whichever ways possible. Critical machining parameters such as tool geometry, tool path, number of flutes, materials fixturing and machine conditions were all taken into account. Researching on such topics initiated a lot of enthusiasm within me and left me with an age-long ambition to be a researcher. To work officially as a researcher in such a prestigious institution in partnership with a well-renowned company such as Ford would be a dream come true for me.
I am also a licensed professional engineer in the United States in Machine Design and Materials. A licensure is regarded as one of the highest standards of competence in engineering. It has given me a good understanding on composites, material science, failure theories and strength analysis. I am also familiar and interested in computational and numerical modeling techniques. I believe the knowledge gained through my experience and studies can greatly supplement research activities. Additionally, during my role as a project engineer with SKF I managed the testing process. Sensors such as accelerometers were used that produced results and derived conclusions from it. I also led failure analysis projects and spent a major portion of my time in labs utilizing microscopes.
I obtained a student loan in order to pursue this degree. The prospect of having to pay back the entire amount would have limited my education. Additionally, it greatly increases the pressure to land a decent job. However, a scholarship will help me and provide me the chance to pursue my goals. By removing the financial obstacle, it will assist me in achieving my academic and professional goals. My financial worries will be eliminated if I receive this scholarship. As a result, It will offer me more time to study, learn, and earn higher marks. I will have plenty of time to search for opportunities to advance my knowledge and skills. Receiving a scholarship is an honour. It will have a positive impact on my potential career. I can put this exceptional scholarship under achievements on my resume. During my job hunt, it will help me stand out from the crowd. Success, according to Winston Churchill, is defined as moving from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm. And while I never label my challenges as “failures,” I measure my success by my consistent tenacity in the face of difficulty. Over the years, I have dealt with a variety of difficulties, yet I have still managed to get excellent marks and graduate at the top of my class. I am deserving this scholarship because I am tenacious and driven to succeed in my objectives despite any obstacles.
I would like to focus myself wholeheartedly towards the research, and contribute towards the company’s objectives the best way I can. I am convinced that I am a valuable addition to the program and believe there is no substitute to hard work and discipline. I would welcome the opportunity to interview with you to answer any of your questions. Please find attached my CV and academic transcripts for your reference.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,
