“Research is what I am doing when I do not know what I am doing” – Wernher von Braun
My tryst with the discipline of reservoir engineering started while pursuing the Master’s program in Petroleum Engineering. I had a clear plan of what I wanted to do after post-graduation, which is to engage in research and serve my interests. Throughout the program, I profoundly enjoyed my chosen module and the electives. Thus, I am willing to spend the next couple of years in inflating my body of knowledge such that I can make invaluable contributions to the petroleum engineering field as well as its growth and development in my country. I firmly believe that the comprehensive PhD program at your prestigious university will provide the necessary support to achieve my career goal. Hence, I solicit this statement of purpose to enrol in the Doctoral program in Reservoir Engineering and partake the benefits from your institution’s strong industry links.
My passion for research has pushed me to excel in my chosen subjects and propelled me to undertake several projects during my graduation. While pursuing my Bachelors of Engineering in Chemical Engineering, I was fortunate enough to delve into two projects.
1) Fixed-bed column study for tetracycline removal from aqueous solution using coconut shell based activated carbon, and
2) Design and fabricate a pilot-scale plant to extract oil from 1000kg of Jatropha curcas seed.
I have always valued academic projects as they promote out-of-the-box thinking. Through these projects, I learned how to implement my current theoretical knowledge to find solutions to specific problems.
My preferred destination for pursuing a doctoral thesis is Saudi Arabia as I can communicate in Arabic; both verbally and written. Moreover, this will help me conveniently engage and interact with the Arab faculty and student community at your university. In addition to this, the universities here have state-of-the-art facilities and a proven track record of research excellence.
After diligent research, I concluded that the teaching faculty at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals comprises leading researchers who will help me grow my skills and turn my aspirations into reality. Its research activities and multi-disciplinary learning approach have left me with no doubt that after completing my doctoral studies from your university, I will be fully prepared to take on senior leadership roles in my country.
I am presently working on a thesis labelled, “Tuning of Todd and Longstaff Mixing Parameter in Limited Compositional Simulation to Optimize Recovery from Gas Condensate Reservoirs”. My country’s current demand is for convenient energy solutions, which can be well-derived from gas condensate reservoirs. My current objective is to enhance my skills and knowledge by focusing my research on improved oil recovery technologies to foster innovative energy solutions. My long-term goal is to become well-versed in using such technologies to tackle the challenges faced by the gas and oil sector in my homeland.
With credence, I conclude that it is my earnest desire to get accepted into your university’s doctoral program. It enables me to focus my primary research objective and advocate change in this field. I thus, solicit this statement of purpose to pursue PhD in Reservoir Engineering and realise my vocational goals.
