Statement of Purpose
Academic Program – Information and Communication Technology MSc
FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg • Erlangen
Intake – Summer 2023
My introduction to information and communication technology begun with my undergraduate education. As a top scorer in Senior School, I was readily eager to start my engineering training but I admittedly, struggled initially to absorb the complex concepts of electronics and embedded systems. By the time I was in second semester of my engineering education, I was habitually breaking the scope of my syllabus and striving to understand the aesthetic and applied scope of my education. Thereafter, completing my four years of BTech degree amongst the toppers of my batch with a CGPA score of 8.5.
My scope of knowledge and application in developing micro controlled applications is much wider now. The rigorous technical education, and, continuous employment in the domain, has made me privy to esoteric research and project work in the technological sectors of 5G protocols and Information Architecture amongst other skills.
My academic rationale to purse my MSc in Information and Communication Technology at FAU Erlangen campus is well derived. The formidable infrastructure at your institution and the curated research-based pedagogy aligns perfectly with my learning and career objectives.
To the success imperative of earning my Master’s degree from FAU, I have prepared a comprehensive knowledge bank that will enable me to contribute brilliantly via original research projects and to collaborate effectively with the intelligible mentors and peer community at the Erlangen campus.
Throughout my school education, I was amongst the top performing students. I scored a near-perfect 96% score in both my Matriculate and Intermediate Examination. The latter was completed in science-stream with a concentration on Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry from Government Girl’s Higher Secondary School, North Paravur, India in 2016.
A lettered lineage has definitely helped me in achieving my academic goals thus far. My doting father, an established businessman in India, profusely encouraged me to do well in STEM subjects; almost in a rebellious manner with a strong point to prove that girls are better at technological innovation. My mother too, ensured a resourceful academia and groomed my curiosity to what I am today.
To my father’s delight and with self-confidence, in 2016, immediately after completing my senior schooling, I eagerly enrolled at SCMS School of Engineering and Technology. I chose to pursue four years of BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering.
My scholarly tenure at the SCMS campus exposed me to diversified technological knowledge spanning theory and practicum exercises. Through the undergraduate syllabus I studied Advanced Mathematics, Linear Algebra, Signals and Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Stochastic Processes and Digital Circuit Design. The coursework also taught us fundamentals of Data Structures and Algorithms while training the class in programming languages of C, C++ and Java.
I am additionally, proficient with software applications of MATLAB, R Studio, and Selenium amongst others. The project work and internships completed during engineering was especially insightful; both in terms of achieving complex learning outcomes and for relishing the scope of collaborative work.
I have completed internships with IETE and underwent five-day training in Raspberry Pi programming with Python, and a two-week internship training at BSNL (Bhartiya Sanchar Nigam Limited), a public Telecommunication giant in India. Additionally, I have attended informative Seminars organised by reputable think tanks to get hands-on training with the PCB and Circuit Design.
For my final year project at the SCMS, I developed a prototype of a Microcontroller based Automatic Vehicle Lock System for Drunk Drivers. The system deployed an Alcoholic sensor with an LCD interface and as soon as it detects the breach of threshold, the motor is locked and relevant alerts were sent to concerned parties. I used GSM based alert system and ARDUINO UNO in the project.
I also presented a mini project as an engineering scholar; in fact, my first stint at developing a micro-controlled system. I developed a GSM based Fire Alert System using ARDUINO UNO. The project relied on a temperature sensor and as soon as it detected heat levels above the pre set optimum temperature, it sent a mobile alert to user for further action. The prototype worked successfully in multiple testing scenarios and the project work was appreciated like-wise by my peers and faculty.
After completing my BTech in 2020, I immediately got a work opportunity with VVDN Technologies Pvt Ltd, India. I am working here since August 2020 and have gained excellent knowledge of working in RU & DU Projects. The job has trained me to understand the Call-Flow, Networking Systems, front haul testing and 5G specifications and protocols. Through my two years of diligent work at VVDN, I have developed a reasonably good proficiency in Linux Systems, Wire Shark, Keysight, Paragon-Neo, R&S, VSA and VSG.
Upgrading my skill bank with an expansive degree offered at your campus will enable me to build upon my knowledge in the most conducive manner. The MSc in Information and Communication at FAU, Germany is a curated curriculum covering interdisciplinary discipline of Communications and Computer Engineering. I have strong ambitions to learn the diversified knowledge and conduct research in the domain of ICT.
In my home country, the extent of ICT revolution is unprecedented. Apart from the technology and communication sector, other pillars of economic growth, including the Supply Chain and Manufacturing are also getting rapidly digitised. I want to develop profound research and prototypical abilities in my chosen academic domain and create innovation in India to have a resolute impact; on people and on economy in general.
My primary research interests include the Augmenting Communication Devices with Machine Learning, along with developing effective and affordable ICT systems using E-waste. Unique research in both these areas can have a large, meaningful impact on developing economies and I am certain that I will be able to set a productive research and professional agenda for myself at the FAU campus.
It is only after exhaustive research that I have concluded FAU, Germany as my first choice to complete my MSc. Education. It will be a definitive privilege to learn at one of the best research centres of ICT in the world. The physical eco-system in and around Erlangen is also most conducive to my learning goals. It is rightly the global centre of Information and Telecommunication innovation and I seek critical industry exposure which can only be achieved as FAU scholar.
Although similar courses are available in my home country, yet, the curriculum and teaching practices lack the stature and futuristic approach of FAU. I am driven to deliver good results as a student at your campus; striving with scholarly vehemence to uphold the illustrious academic legacy of FAU – Erlangen.
After completing my MSc in Information and Communication Technology, I want to continue with the research work and will aim to collaborate with Technological think tanks in India. I firmly believe that the communication technology holds the key to my country’s economic success, especially in the SME start-up sectors. I also have a preserved ambition to pursue PhD from a reputable university. In the long terms, I see myself contributing with valuable research and preferably sharing my experience and knowledge as an instructor.
I hope to have reflected my academic zeal and suitability to study at the FAU in an effective manner. An opportunity to complete my Master’s in Germany will add significant impetus to my skills, to the acceptance of my ideas and preferably in shattering the glass ceiling as a leading woman ICT researcher in India.
Therefore, I request for a favourable review of my application with a sincere thanks for your time given in evaluating it.
Sincerely
